This week I did a report on a penguin witch is a Fiordland penguin so here is my report i hope you enjoy it.
Tawaki / Fiordland penguin
Habitat
Tawaki, or the Fiordland Crested Penguin are unique among penguins. They breed in temperate rainforest only in the southwest corner of New Zealand. During the July to December breeding season they are most easily seen along the Lake Moeraki coastline.
Diet
The Tawaki eats Fish Larvae, small fish, crustaceans, cephalopods, and krill. It also includes dogs, cats, and stoats. Also they eat squid and octopus.
Appearance
Adult Tawaki has dark blue and grey upperparts which turns brown when approaching molt. Also often darker on the head and a yellow strip for an eyebrow striped crest which starts at the nostrils and extends well to pester the eye.
Life cycle
The Tawaki live to about 10 to 20 years old. Also they reproduce every 5 years. Which will make more penguins. But they would also need more food.
Predators
On land predators of the Fiordland penguin include Dogs, Cats, Stoats, Wekas, and Ferrets. In places where such predators are abundant such as on the South Island. The pests in Fiordland are Stoats, Ferrets, Weasels, Norway Rats, Ship Rats, Mice, Possums, Cats, Red Deer and sometimes Pigs.
